Supernational Integration

I hold a "utopian ideal" that one day the world will work as one, meaning we will all live under the same umbrella in every instance- particularly government. Specifically each individual on Earth will be a part of the same civil society, actively partaking in the culture and society which they live in. For this to be accomplished it will take more then just supernational integration, but a destruction of the definition of separate states into one overarching state.
I do argue, however, that before we can reach this civil society there must be supernational integration. This integration brings about a human culture of cooperation, understanding, tolerance, and an overall "togetherness". Creating a pattern of united forces will bridge the gap between continents, cultures, and governments. With this pattern becoming customary, the transition to a unified state for the entire globe will be seamless.
The beasts our world faces with each new day grow in severity and complexity. It takes more then just one state or "benevolent hegemon" to conquer these beasts. Therefore it is absolutely necessary for state to state cooperation and integration in order to achieve large scale tasks, especially in the name of the citizens of the world. With this in mind, I see the unilateral evolution of humanity to be one under a single state.

  1. I really support your ideas, for they are dreams that I wish to happen as well. But to be "that one" who plays devil's advocate, do you think all state's will peacefully and cooperatively band together for the greater good? Take the (overused) example of Afghanistan and America. As much as I hope it would happen, I can't see complete tranquility forming between the two...
But if we lived in a Utopian society, then your ideas would for sure work out.

  2. I, just like Elana, would love to see a world that is based in acceptance and is all-inclusive. You stated that to achieve this type of world we would all have to function under one global government. My first question is what would this government look like? Would it be something that looks like the current United Nations or perhaps a larger version of the American government only expanded to the global level? My second question for you is how do you think the contrasting cultures/civilizations would react to being incorporated into one large global entity, how would one handle the issues that would arise from such possible clashes? For example if you look at tribal differences in certain African nations you’ll see that’s where some of the countries national issues stem from. As the lines that were drawn for African nations were done without consulting or regarding the natural dividing lines between different groups of people, being forced to coincide in one nation has created issues. How would you avoid such issues?

  3. Elana:
Afghanistan and America is a poor example because the tranquility that America is aiming for does not exist because of America's prior actions within Afghanistan. America aided individuals in Afghanistan in their jihad, but with anti-Soviet motives. Therefore they didnt "come together" for the sake of a greater good or truly even mutual benefit- it was secretive motive that led to support the US now regrets.

Id use America as an example to the question of how the cultures/civilizations would react. The US is not a melting pot but a tossed salad, in that the different groups/cultures are mixed together but keep their own distinct attributes. Having a unified system of government doesnt forsake cultures nor does it necessarily spell out conflict. It has only been so in the past as a result of societies habitual way of thinking. My hope/opinion would be that society does have it within themselves to learn from the past for a better future. That is (avoiding the details) organizing a government that allows for open discussion, diversity, watchdog practices, proper regulation, individual freedoms, protection/security, equality, balance of power (in terms of both government and individuals), etc. I would argue that there is not a government in existence today that has solved these issues domestically but the ability to start fresh comes with each day. That fresh start can come in the form of a completely new global government.
